Roothub – Trained Over 32,000 Young Nigerians Within 10yrs On ICT.
UYO – Roothub, a platform for the exchange of ideas, technology, and digital skills says it has trained over 32,000 young Nigerians on digital skills in its past ten years of operation.
The co-founder/CEO, RootHub, Mr Tony Onuk who made the declaration during a press conference organized by Immerse in collaboration with Root-Hub and project ARIT in Uyo at the weekend said Root-hub has successfully trained thousands from novice to expert levels on ICT.
Onuk reported that Some of its trainees have become entrepreneurs, and remote workers both locally and internationally. “We have physical locations in Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Ebonyi, Lagos, and Taraba state”. He said
He said the feat was achieved through its partnership with giant industries like Google and Facebook.
In his words “For the past ten years, we have trained over 32,000 people. In 2018, we had a project called Tech101 that we did in partnership with Google, which was to train 10,000 people across the nine states of the Niger Delta. Before we had that partnership with Google, we had done,3,300 within Akwa Ibom. And then we were able to add another 10,000 across the Niger Delta region.
“In 2020, we partnered with Facebook to be able to train 20,000 plus people using Facebook as a tool. We covered not just the Niger Delta, but the whole of Nigeria. We have a database of people across Africa reaching about 72,000 plus in our database whom we give training and mentorship.
“Out of the same number, we have placed successfully around the world 1,200 people, some who have become entrepreneurs and they have their agencies”.
The Root-hub Chief Executive maintained that ICT is a key component of human capacity development as it has helped young people find jobs within and outside the state.
